Tell Muttiah Muralitharan that KFC Tortures Chickens!

Muttiah Muralitharan might be KFC's latest ambassador and he might think KFC is 'Finger Lickin’ Good! Write to Muralitharan and let him know the ugly side of KFC. He must know that KFC India’s suppliers cramp chickens into huge waste-filled factories, breed them to grow so large that many can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. At slaughter, the birds’ throats are slit and they are dropped into tanks of scalding hot water—often while they are still conscious. KFC’s own animal welfare advisors have asked the company to take steps to eliminate these abuses, but KFC refuses to do so. PETA India obtained graphic video footage documenting the following at a Venkateshwara Hatcheries farm, which supplies KFC India:
  • Chickens were stuffed into extremely crowded warehouses, where they had to push and shove in order to reach their food.
  • Birds were bred to grow so large so quickly that many suffered in agony when their weak legs could not support their weight.
  • Barns were littered with the carcasses of chickens who died from fatal diseases.
  • Many sick and injured chickens never received medical attention.
  • Chickens suffered at the hands of callous workers who neglected to observe even minimum animal welfare standards.
If Muttiah Muralitharan has a heart and doesn't want to spoil his recognition, he better don't support KFC. Let him know that more than 12,500 demonstrations were held against KFC across the globe. Celebrities like Anoushka Shankar, Pundit Ravi Shankar, Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and dozens of other well known scholars, authors and world leaders are boycotting KFC, let Muralitharan join them! Attention: Science, Veterinary and Medical Students and Graduates from India

Chances are that you chose to study science to help people or animals and to study life, yet many institutions turn your dream into the study of pain and death, despite the availability of modern and superior non-animal training methods.

As any science student knows, animals suffer immensely when they are caged, cut open, drugged or worse. They are also afraid and lonely. Leading international institutions – including Harvard, Stanford and Yale – are increasingly moving away from the exploitation of animals in education, and so can Indian institutions.

PETA is working to build a network of kind people like you who have or are starting a science education and who care about animals. Please fill in as much information as you can on the form below. The more PETA knows about you, the better PETA can tailor their interaction with you to suit your needs and interests.

Please note that PETA India respects your privacy and the information that you provide will be treated confidentially.

Fill up this form NOW!

European Retailers Come Out Against Australian Wool

H&M which recently pledged to stop buying wool from Australian sources which practice mulesing mutilation (essentially, slicing up sheep’s backsides), has set off a chain reaction throughout Europe: Following H&M’s announcement, 17 other major Swedish retailers have made the same pledge, and a coalition of 31 European retailers have announced that they are considering or have decided to stop using wool from mulesed lambs. On top of all this, 10 Danish retailers have withdrawn their support of mulesing, and the Western Australia Department of Agriculture has announced that it will stop mulesing.

What does this all add up to? The total amount of canceled orders of Aussie wool from Europe as a result of these decisions comes to 550,000 bales of wool. This is a big wakeup call to Aussie wool farmers who continue to mutilate lambs, and a strong message to wool industry executives that their continued refusal to adopt humane practices will directly affect their bottom line. Why I’m Committed?

I’m committed to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) the world’s largest animal rights group since 2005. I came to know PETA through their comic ‘It’s a chicken’s life’ which told me about how chickens suffer in the name of factory farms, till then I was not aware of any thing about PETA, animal rights or animal cruelty. I was an ordinary guy who ate meat, wore leather, went to zoos and circus, and even hunting. I was least bothered about other beings; it was PETA who changed me. Today I’m a proud member, supporter and an activist of this wonderful group.

Till now I have participated in more than six PETA demonstrations, to fight against those who benefit from animal’s sufferings. PETA has always guided me to live a cruelty free life, thanks to Ingrid E. Newkirk who founded this organization. If you need to make a difference in lives of billions of animals, then this is the organization. I always encourage the youths to join the PETA’s youth arm Street Team and spread the message about animal rights.

Here I wanted to tell something about my grandma, Eva who is no long with me. She was big time animal lover who always feeds stray animals and speaks out against animal abuse even at the age of 73. She was also a member of PETA and always supports my activism. She likes to come over to see how I protest during our PETA demonstrations. Being a writer who does loads of searches on the internet, I always make sure that I use www.GoodSearch.com every time to raise money for my favorite organization. I also visit PETA’s blog ‘The PETA Files’ everyday to keep myself updated about the animal rights movement. It gives me a tremendous feeling of satisfaction whenever I volunteer for PETA. The rights movement always grows bigger, stronger and we will always win to bring animal liberation.
